Father's Day Tribute

Today, I am in awe of the pleasant picture painted by the "good dads".  The concept falls flat and escapes my personal experience but nevertheless I celebrate all fathers who are doing it right. I am thinking of one man in particular who has shown his daughter (and me) that there are still good men in this world. He is my imaginary "baby daddy".

Selah!

Happy Father's Day!

Fathers and Daughters
The good ones paint the landscape of their daughter’s lives
creating future queens out of little princesses.

Their portraits reveal strong arms
perfect for burly bear hugs, and
bracing her lofty or inconsequential falls;

Hands, gentle and strapping as required
for wiping tears, giving gifts and
for holding hers while ambling up the street
or down the aisle.

Eyes, bright and wide open
aware and adoring.

His voice intonates warnings to would-be captors and suitors,
yet sings the melody of his unconditional love.

His legs are pilings of protection,
moving swiftly to welcome and rescue.

His legacy of intimacy is the sketch
by which all other men are appraised
and the good ones render with great accuracy
all that is noble
all that is virtuous and
all that is good
between fathers and daughters.
